Duke Ellington was an American Composer, Pianist and Bandleader of a Jazz Orchestra, was based on New York City from the mid-1920s onward together continuously for almost 50 years, and was the most important composer in the history of Jazz.  Some of the musicians who were members of Duke Ellington's Orchestra, such as Saxophonist Johnny Hodges.  He wrote more than one thousand compositions.  He was awarded a special Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1999.
