The McCoys were an American Rock Group formed in 1962 from Union City, Indiana. The original member and the first line-up by Richard Zehringer (later known as Rick Derringer on Guitar), his brother Randy Zehringer (Drums), and Dennis Kelly (Bass) as The Rick Z Combo, and later as Rick and The Raiders, when Kelly left and replaced by Randy Jo Hobbs (Bass), joined with Sean Michaels (Saxophon), and Ronnie Brandon (Keyboards), and changed name to The McCoys. Brandon left in 1965 and was replaced by Bobby Peterson (Keyboards).
The best-known song is "Hang On Sloopy" was No. 1 in Billboard Chart in 1965, and other hits such as "Fever" and "Sorrow".
Rick and his brother Randy and Randy Hobbs later became Johnny Winter's Band. Rick also played with Steely Dan, Edgar Winter, Cyndi Lauper and his own band Derringer, and formed later band with Carmine Appice as DNA.
The McCoys was considered one of the American Teen Idol, and Rock Legend, also one of the Great American '60s Pop Bands!.
