The Modern Jazz Quartet was an American Jazz Combo from New York City, New York, formed in 1952 by ohn Lewis (Piano), Milt Jackson (Vibraphone), Percy Health (Double Bass), and Kenny Clarke (Drums). They played music influenced by Classical, Cool Jazz, Blues and Bebop. The group grew out of the rhythm section of Dizzy Gillespie's big band from 1946 to 1948.
