Uncle Tupelo was an Alternative country Band from Belleville, Illinois, formed i987 and active between 1987 and 1994 by Jay Farrar (Vocals, Guitar), Jeff Tweedy (Vocals, Bass) and Mike Heidorn (Drums). The band split on May 1, 1994, after completing a farewell tour. After breakup, Jay Farrar formed Son Volt with Mike Heidorn, while the remaining members continued as Wilco.
