The Carpenters were an American Vocals and instrumental Duo consisting of Karen Carpenter (Vocals, Drums) and Richard Carpenter (Piano, Vocals).  They played Soft Music Style and later becoming one of the Best-Selling Music Artists of All Time.  The Carpenters recorded 11 albums and 31 Singles, 5 Television Specials and a short-lived television series.  The Duo's brand of Melodic Pop run hit recordings on The American Top 40 and Adult Contemporary Charts, and the became leading sellers in the Soft Rock, Easy Listening, and Adult Contemporary Genres.  The Carpenters had 3 No. 1 Singles and 5 No. 2 Singles on The Billboard Hot 100 and 15 No. 1 Hits on the Adult Contemporary Chart.  They had sold Album and Single Sales Total more than 100 million units.  Karen's death of eating disorders in 1983.
