Dio was an American Heavy Metal Band formed in 1982 by Ronnie James Dio (Vocals), after he left Black Sabbath to form a new band with fellow former Black Sabbath memeber Vinny Appice (Drums), Jimmy Bain (Bass), and Vivian Campbell.  Dio was already well-known at that time, Dio means "God" in Italian.

The band dissolved in 2010 when Ronnie James Dio died of stomach cancer at the age of 67.  The Band has sold more than 10 million copies of albums worldwide.
