Denny Doherty was a Canadian Singer, Songwriter, Musician and Actor from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was a founding member of the 1960s Folk Rock Band The Mamas & The Papas. He started his musical career in 1956 with a band called The Hepsters and disbanded two years later, and then began a Folk Group called The Colonials, broke up in 1963. He joined with The Big 3 consisted of Cass Elliot, Zal Yanovsky, and Jim Hendricks, after adding members, they changed their name to The Mugwumps, who soon broke up, Zal Yanovsky went on to form The Lovin' Spoonful with John Sebastian. In 1965, he joined with new band formed by John Phillips, along with Cass Elliot and Michelle Phillips, called The Mamas & The Papas.
